a battle waged by antithetically heroic deeds
selfishly seeking shelter from flaming shrapnel
stealthily laying mines around the foundation
once thought to be weak prior to reinforcements
proven to be formidable beneath fault lines

my hands crossed over my chest
my heart beats faster than it should
my skin feels every thread of fabric surrounding me
my breath barely reaches beyond shallow

unable to awaken any part of me
have I done the right thing
